12 - Business Plan Development

The LP for Business Plan Development was to research two authors and their opinions on the importance of a business plan.

Each of the authors I reviewed had varying views. One stated it was the most important step in the process of making a business, the other said the act of making a business plan had no effect on the outcome of your business.

After going through the EBMS program I feel it is very important to make a business plan.  I feel that a person will be ill prepared for many of life's twist without a proper plan to guide your progress.

The Importance of...

11 - Mobile Marketing and Commerce

The LP assignment for MMC was a survey taken by some close family and friends to determine.  I learned that the most effective way to figure out massive amounts of marketing data is to do a survey! Each of the people that took my survey had very different sets of cell phone habits.  This survey was a lot of fun, I learned how different some of my family members are!

10 - Internet Marketing and Web Search Optimization

The LP assignment for IMO was to write our thoughts on whether the internet is making the human race dumber.

Here is my paper:

The Age of StumbleUpon.com
Reading through the articles provided to me to complete this assignment, the one I struck me most was Digital Overload Is Frying Our Brains by Brandon Keim where he interviews Maggie Jackson, an author on focus, technology, and the future.
The thing that stuck with me most in the article was the fact that she did not say we were getting dumber.  She stated that the world we live in in much different than before, we are “part of an institutionalized culture of interruption, and makes it hard to concentrate and think creatively.”
I believe this is very true.  I want to use myself as an example.  As a child going to elementary, middle, and high school with no real technology in the class room, I was able to concentrate on eight hours of school a day and never really get bored.  As of now I have only four hours of schooling a day, but with the use of my laptop, cellphone, and, iPod, I can easily not hear a word of class.  I must force myself to stop Stumbling in class and pay attention.  Personally I feel I retain more information if I am forced to wrtie notes by hand!
With so much information on the internet I feel that people can ask a question and they can receive accurate answers unlike any other time in our history. Therefore, I feel that we are not dumber on a whole, but I feel with some much information at our fingertips, we have smaller attention spans.  We want what we want, now.
Elizabeth Craig is a Graduate student at Full Sail University getting a Master’s Degree in Entertainment Business.  She also has a music background with an Associate’s Degree in Recording Arts and a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Business - both from Full Sail University.  To learn more about Elizabeth visit her Blog or Twitter.

This class taught me organization.  There is so much information on the internet and to be able to use it effectively you have to be organized.

9 - Entertainment Media Publishing and Distribution

My LP assignment for MPD was to create a strategy plan for the distribution of my "book" The Exploits of Turk.

The Inspiration.

I wrote about the product, my plans for marketing and distribution, and my qualifications for writing a young adult fantasy novel.  I learned the value of self-publication and how much work goes into doing-it-yourself.

8 - Advanced Entertainment Law

The assignment for the class Advanced Entertainment Law was to interview an Entertainment Lawyer.  The lawyer I interviewed was Stephen Owen Summer of Austin, TX.

Austin, TX

Stephen is a great lawyer with no disciplinary actions against him.  He is a jazz musician and strives to save the music of past jazz artists.

I learned that preparation, organization, and communication are all very important in setting up appointments.  In addition, having a caring attorney that actually cares about you, will help you in your endeavors.

7 - Product and Artist Management

My LP assignment for the Product and Artist management class was to join a group that participated in Artist or Product Management services and to help the group in those services.

I was already a member of the MEISA organization at the time.  The group had decided to revamp the Open Mic Nights as an event called "Show 'n' Flow."  It added to the Open Mic experience.  Show 'n' Flow encouraged artists, developers, musicians, songwriters, and all creatives at Full Sail to show their works.

It was a lot of fun doing this project.  We put the show on a month or so after Product and Artist Management ended, but I still used the skills learned in the class.
